Its a Dogs Life

Now and again I will bring my dog with me into the studio. She is a purebred border collie and very intelligent. I wondered if this intelligence would lead to her being a good radio presenter.

Hits and Memories

Monday to Thursday between 11 and midnight I play an hour of music from one particular year and give clues to the news and listeners can reminisce on this and phone, email or text in their answers just for a bit of fun.......

Well, things are about to change. What will happen is that the hits and memories will be as it always was but somewhere during that part of the show a song will be played that is NOT from the particular year being played and talked about. The challenge will be not only to guess the year but also name the odd song out.

keep tuned to 107.3 Abbey FM or listen on-line

Web site reviews

Due to reasons explained earlier, there have been no website reviews this week and hope to resume next Monday.

If you know of any good websites that you would like to hear reviewed on the air then please get in touch bill@abbeyfm.co.uk

This week

Its been a really wierd week this week, I lost my password to update the blog so hence the lack of updates this week. The week started for me on Monday morning when my hard drive on my main PC decided it wasnt going to function properly anymore. Luckily I had everything I needed backed up on another hard drive with the exception of a few passwords for various sites.

For security reasons I don`t use the same password more than once and have a list of then for various sites. I hadnt backed up the details for the Abbey FM website. the myspace website and this blog. After many emails back and forth to various places I finally got my passwords reset so I can get back to normal now.

Abbey FM News Team reports on Morecambe Bay Tragedy

A tragedy occurred in Morecambe Bay on Wednesday Evening and as soon as we heard about it the Abbey FM news team sprang into action to obtain as much information as possible and report on it live from the studios.

I was on air at the time and the news team and myself co-ordinated live reporting as it happened. Telephones were ringing and we were making calls to all sorts of sources to gather information and deal with the situation efficiently. Rosie from the News Team as well as myself sourced as much information as we could and Colin Yare [Programme Controller] kept listeners up to date by displaying information first hand on our website. The team worked together to bring the local people the news live as it happened.

It goes to show that smaller stations can cover major events as much as bigger stations and lets face it, a local station bringing the listener local news live as it happens just goes to show how dedicated Abbey FM is to the people of the Furness Peninsula.

Personally I would like to thank Rosie Hillman [News] and Colin Yare [P.C.] for job well done, especially liaising with myself and emergency services to bring the news direct to the listeners.

At the time of writing this one person is still missing and six bodies have been recovered from the site where the helicopter crashed on it's way to a gas rig in Morecambe Bay from Blackpool airport.
